Before heading to your first wedding dress fitting, let’s talk timing. When should you visit a wedding dress boutique for the very first time? We recommend allowing between 6 and 8 months before the big day, so you have enough time for multiple fittings and, most importantly, for alterations to ensure the gown fits you perfectly.

Book your appointment online

Couture Nuptiale invites you to book your first appointment online. The advantage? You’ll benefit from the undivided attention of a dedicated bridal consultant who will have prepared for your visit. Of course, you can always try walking into a boutique — with a bit of luck, it won’t be too busy and you’ll be able to dive straight into your first try-on session.

Do your research beforehand

Before throwing yourself into your first fitting, take some time to browse online. What style of dress are you looking for? Which designer or brand catches your eye? Are you looking for a wedding dress by Atelier Nuptial? Rose Angel? Or Couture Nuptiale? Also set your budget, so you can focus on styles within your price range.

Typically, a first wedding dress appointment lasts around 1.5 hours. You’ll try on between three and six gowns, depending on which ones you fall in love with, your consultant’s recommendations, and the input of anyone accompanying you. On that note — bring only one or two people, not the entire bridal party! Too many different opinions risk pulling you away from your original goal: finding THE wedding dress.

To help you remember all the wedding dresses you’ve tried on and take time to reflect, you might consider asking if photos are permitted — this is often allowed at the boutique’s discretion.

A dedicated “couture fitting” appointment at Couture Nuptiale

At Couture Nuptiale, we offer a dedicated “couture fitting” appointment. During this session, our seamstresses will pin the dress to make all the necessary adjustments. You can also discuss personalization options for your gown — from adding straps or rhinestones, closing a neckline that feels too low, adding a lace-up back, or incorporating sleeves, to name just a few possibilities. A second “check” appointment will then allow you to see the finished gown and make any final tweaks.

Before your first fitting, we recommend arriving prepared for the best impression of the dress. A light touch of makeup is ideal, and wearing flesh-colored underwear will help you avoid turning down a gown because your bright fuchsia bra is peeking out. If you’re planning an updo for the wedding day, it’s a great idea to wear your hair up for the appointment too.

You can also start selecting accessories — a bolero, stole, tiara — as well as the shoes you plan to wear on the day. Whether it’s the shoes or the dress, it can be very helpful to take a few steps around the bridal boutique to make sure you’re comfortable with the train, the heels, or the corset. Feeling at ease in your bridal look is essential for carrying it with poise and elegance on your wedding day.
