Wedding dress fittings are truly unforgettable moments. And they become even more special when shared with loved ones. It is often at this point that brides-to-be truly realise they are about to commit to the person of their dreams. It marks a genuine turning point in the wedding preparations. So, who can be with you during your wedding dress fittings?
Our boutiques welcome you to bring one, two, or even three people with you. What matters most is that they are people who are close to you — whether your best friend, your sister, your maid of honour, or your bridesmaid. As a general rule, the bride-to-be does not choose her wedding dress in the company of her future partner! Tradition calls for keeping the surprise until the big day — but of course, the choice is entirely yours.
It is important that those present at fittings are both supportive and honest, so that they can be a genuine help in this crucial decision. They should feel free to share their opinions openly, yet with tact — pointing out the positives and negatives of each dress. Steer clear of anyone negative, anxious, or likely to dampen the mood. Don’t let these precious moments be clouded by bad energy!
Do keep the group small, however: the more people around you, the more conflicting opinions you will hear, and the harder it will be to make a clear decision. You may find yourself completely overwhelmed! On the other hand, don’t go alone — we are rarely our own best judges. If choosing a pair of jeans can be tricky on your own, imagine making the decision about your wedding dress…
So what exactly is the role of your companions? They should be far more than mere spectators at your fittings. Don’t hesitate to involve them — ask for their input. They can take notes on each wedding dress, noting the strengths and weaknesses of each style, as well as the prices. After a few fittings, it is very easy to lose track of the details or start mixing up the different models.
It is important that your companions are present throughout the entire process. For example, at Couture Nuptiale, we invite you to a first appointment during which our seamstresses pin the dress for alterations. This is when you can request any changes or modifications — adding straps, rhinestones, a lace-up back… You have the freedom to personalise your dress, and your loved ones can guide you on the adjustments needed to achieve a wedding dress that is truly yours.
Invite them to the second appointment too — the final check — where you will see the finished result of your wedding dress. There may still be a few last-minute tweaks.
Your companions will thus have an exclusive preview of you in your bridal glory. There will almost certainly be a few happy tears shed along the way.
