It is the big day before the big day. You have selected two or three boutiques, gathered your companions, and set the date for your wedding dress fittings. A truly essential step in planning your wedding!

It is often at this very moment that the reality sinks in — you are about to say yes to the love of your life! To make sure your wedding dress fittings go as smoothly as possible, here is everything you should bring with you.

One or two trusted companions

This is without doubt the most important element of your fitting sessions: your companions! Do not go to try on your wedding dress alone! It would be both lonely and risky. The choice of a wedding dress is often complex and depends on many factors: style, price, your body shape, and personal favourites. To help you think it through, bring one, two, or a maximum of three people with you.

Whether it is your sister, your mother, a close friend, or even your brother-in-law — it really does not matter. Some brides even involve their future spouse in the fittings, although most prefer to save the surprise for the ceremony itself.

In any case, surround yourself with people you trust, who will give you honest and kind feedback. They can help you keep track of the different wedding dresses you try on — for example by noting the price, the pros and the cons of each model. That said, keep your group small: too many different opinions can quickly become overwhelming.

Photos of dress styles you love

It is not always easy to put into words exactly what you are looking for in a wedding dress. Feel free to bring along catalogue photos or images from bridal magazines to show the consultant which style of wedding dress appeals to you, the features you love, and the ones you would rather avoid.

The right underwear

There is no need to wear your finest lingerie to your wedding dress fitting. What does matter, however, is choosing seamless, skin-toned underwear that will not show under the gowns. You might also opt for a strapless bra or one with removable straps. The key is that your underwear remains completely discreet beneath every dress you try.

A bottle of water!

Trying on several wedding dresses in multiple boutiques in the space of half a day is genuinely tiring! Do not forget to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated and avoid wasting precious time on a café break!

Arrive with appropriate make-up and hair styling

We recommend coming to your fitting appointments with your hair and make-up done — for example with an updo similar to the one you plan to wear on your wedding day. Why? Because it is the only way to get an accurate sense of how the dress will look on the day itself. You might overlook a stunning wedding dress simply because you did not see it under realistic conditions.
