A wedding dress that simply reflects your wishes

Beyond considerations of body shape and color palette, it is quite possible that your tastes in terms of a wedding dress for a second (or third, or fourth) marriage are different. The bride-to-be is often a little older, may have children from a previous relationship, and may not want to repeat any mistakes she feels she made the first time around.

There is a common saying that, for a second marriage, it is better to opt for a simple, understated wedding dress. But why? If you feel like wearing something bold, a princess gown, a lace dress, or a glamorous style — go for it! What matters most is that your dress reflects who you are.

It is also often said that you should not wear white for a second marriage. It is true that, traditionally, white is associated with purity, innocence, and virginity — a symbolism that is arguably no longer entirely relevant, since even first-time brides have often been living with their partner for years. In short, if you want a beautiful white wedding dress for a second wedding, do not hesitate! It is true that women who were married in a church the first time cannot remarry in a religious ceremony. But nothing prevents you from wearing white for a civil or secular celebration.

That said, you may well prefer something a little simpler than your first gown. There are many beautifully elegant dresses that will be perfect for you. You could go for a shorter, more understated yet chic wedding dress. What matters is that you feel at ease with yourself and that your outfit complements your partner’s. If you fancy a trouser suit, why not go for it!

Ask the professionals — and your friends!

As with a first wedding, do not hesitate to seek the advice of the professionals at the bridal boutique you have chosen. At Couture Nuptiale, fittings take place in three stages.

  • At the first fitting appointment, we pin the dress, make adjustments, and discuss any modifications you would like (adding or removing embellishments, adding straps, and so on). You can also add accessories to personalise your gown further.
  • At the second check appointment, you will have the pleasure of seeing the final result. You may still request a few further adjustments at this stage.
  • At the third appointment, you will collect your wedding dress, pressed and carefully packaged.

For the fittings, do not hesitate to bring along people who know you well and who understand your life story. They will be able to guide you towards styles that truly suit you. They may even be some of the same people who accompanied you to fittings for your first wedding!
